On October 24, 2016, Assistant Attorney General Peter Kadzik responded to Senator Marco Rubio (R., Fla.) and Representative Mike Pompeo (R., Kan.) on Attorney General Loretta Lynch's behalf regarding a series of questions dealing with the cash payment made to Iran according to the Washington Free Beacon.
The questions dealt with how the cash payment to Iran was approved and delivered. Iran is considered the world's largest state sponsor of terror.
The response to the lawmakers was basically a Plea of the Fifth Amendment against self-incrimination.
It is unknown if this is just a stall or she would actually plead the fifth amendment if brought before a congressional hearing.
Although the details of the transaction are not classified they are being kept in a secure part of Capitol Hill. Lawmakers who have clearance to view the documents cannot take any notes while viewing them and cannot speak about the details in public.
Pleading of the Fifth Amendment and keeping the details secret all seem to be extremes regarding a transaction that was supposed not involve "anything nefarious" which was President Obama's assurance regarding the transaction at an August 4 news conference.
